The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) is working to complete the Affordable Housing Project in the Asokore Mampong Municipality of the Ashanti Region in December this year.
Authorities are hopeful that contractors on site will deliver and complete the project by the end of 2018.
According to SSNIT, most of the buildings are over 75% complete, and other ancillary facilities are being worked on to put the facility in the best of shape.
This was revealed after a tour of the facility and an interactive session with contractors and workers on site.
As part of plans to reduce the housing deficit, the Kufuor government began the Affordable Housing Projects in five regions of the country in 2006.
The objective was to provide accommodation for low to middle-income workers, create jobs and build the capacity of local contractors.
The government handed over the Asokore Mampong project to SSNIT to complete after work stalled at the site.
The project will deliver a total of 1,079 housing units of flats comprising 336 units of one bedroom, 668 units of two-bedroom and three-bedroom flat types.
The Director-General of SSNIT, John Tenkorang after touring the site with the Board Chairman of SSNIT and other officials, assured that the project would be completed by December 2018.
“We are happy to say that that barring any unforeseen circumstances the contractors will deliver this project to us in December so that all who may have processed their documents would have the opportunity to own places here’’, he said.
Mr. Tenkorang also called on interested persons, groups, and institutions to forward their application letters to the SSNIT offices in Kumasi to start the process of securing their places.
The Board Chairman for SSNIT, Dr. Kwame Addo Kufuor commended the contractors for the working to meet the completion deadline.
He urged contractors who may have some difficulties in accessing their certificates of payments to channel their grievances to the Project Manager so they can be addressed.
The estimated cost to complete the Asokore Mampong project is US$62.34 million which is fully funded by SSNIT.
The project also has a complementary infrastructure and community facilities such as; management block, tarred internal road network with drains and paved walkways, paved cars parks, central sewage treatment plant, water storage, and distribution network for uninterrupted water supply.
Other facilities include; external power supply and street lighting, fencing with guard house, police post and community shops.
75 contractors are working on the project with 16 sub-contractors and eight infrastructure contractors.
