Liberal Party Launches Campaign In Support Of Female Parliamentary Candidates

The Liberal Party of Ghana has launched a campaign dubbed, “Invite Her To Campaign” which is aimed at ensuring more women in politics especially those who want to become parliamentarians.

According to the Leader of the Party, Kofi Akpaloo, “it is time to get more women to be involved in politics”. He disclosed this in an interview with allnewgh.com.

He noted that the Liberal Party of Ghana is making a conscious effort to be committed in advancing women’s equality, participation, and leadership in Ghana’s economy.

He explained that the LP is advocating for the empowerment of women and girls as leaders, innovators and decision-makers, though there is more to be done.

“We all know an extraordinary woman, she is intelligent, brave and determined. Her leadership can inspire her community and our country. She just needs a nudge from her peers to empower her to take the next step, so we should and must encourage her to run,” he stated.

He added that as part of the “Invite Her to Run Campaign”, the party is asking the citizenry to do more than asking women to run for elections but also for women to get involved in politics generally.

“Whether it’s volunteering, getting involved with the Constituency Executives or playing a key role on campaign teams, we’re excited to get to know you,” he said calling on women to rally around the LP in full support.

According to him, research shows that women are 50% less likely than men to consider themselves a potential candidate for elected office, and with the next election getting closer and closer, now is the time to act.

He called on Ghanaians to make a difference and send an invitation to a friend, family member or colleague who is a strong community leader, and urged them to encourage more women to get involved in politics.
