Kuanijom, an agritech organization has been selected as one of the 10 companies in Africa to undergo a shared value masterclass worth $5000 from Shared Value initiative Africa.
The company is one of the startups that was birthed at KICs 2020 cohort of Agritech Competition and was part of the top 10 to reach the finals. The program is known for its reputation of preparing great minds to recognize and fish out opportunities.
Though it has been in existence for a year, Kuanijom was selected alongside big businesses that have been in the space for years across Africa. The course which will last for a month is set to prepare the participants to practice shared value along with their entire operations.
The course will be undertaken with Shared Value Africa and sponsored by Harvard and Shift Impact Africa.
The team at Kuanijom interacted with Professor Micheal Porter and Mark Kramer, the two great minds behind Shared Value Africa Initiative on the project.
According to Bless Satsi, CEO of Kuanijom, the realization of potentials in a start-up like Kuanijom had them pitching their business model on the value chain available for farmers, as well as employment opportunities readily available through their Kendor program.
She stated that going forward, there is another opportunity to sell out further ideas about how to best implement shared value across a large number of the value chain.
‘Shared values are policies and operating practices that enhance the competitiveness of a company while simultaneously advancing the economic and social conditions in the communities in which it operates while creating focuses on identifying and expanding the connections between societal and economic progress’ she stated.
The programme is an initiative of SVAI, the regional partner of Global Shared Value Initiative operated by Shift Social Development, a Shared Value consultancy, advocacy and training firms based in Johannesburg. Its purpose is to grow a community of African Shared Value leaders.
The Shared Value course represents a fundamental shift in thinking from a profit-only focus to one of profit with purpose. It is a business management concept introduced 10 years and practiced by successful companies globally.
Companies that are members of the shared value initiative are Absa, Safaricom,Vodafone, Old mutual.
The Shared Value Masterclass focuses on helping companies use Shared Value as a tool to create strategies focused on sustainability and practices that enhance competitiveness, while simultaneously advancing the economic and social conditions of the communities in which they operate.
Kuanijom serves as an entity to solve challenges taking into consideration everyone in mind. The company is best placed to solve challenges faced as a society in the agritech sector.
